D.I.Y – Floral Initial

Spruce up your room with a fresh spring update! This floral initial looks cute with any decor and the flowers stay fresh far past spring.

Materials you will need:

  • Sharpie
  • Scissors
  • A sheet of cardboard
  • Hot glue gun
  • An abundance of fake flowers (You can buy these at any craft store, but you can buy them much cheaper at the dollar store)

Steps:

1.Trace your desired letter or design onto the sheet of cardboard using the sharpie, and then cut it out. The bigger you make your letter, the more flowers you can fit onto it.

2.Carefully hot glue bigger flowers onto the cardboard at random intervals

3.Fill in all of the spaces around the big flowers with smaller and medium sized flowers until you can’t see anymore cardboard

4.Clean off any stray strings of hot glue. You can now prop your letter up, or use mounting putty to hang your letter on your wall or door. You can also make more and spell out an entire word!

D.I.Y. – Flower Jar

If using hot glue makes you nervous, or you have some extra flowers leftover from the initial and nowhere to put them, you can make this cute flower jar to brighten your room with a pop of color.

Materials you will need:

  • A mason jar
  • Acrylic paint in black, white, yellow, and a bright, leafy green
  • A large foam paintbrush, and a few normal paintbrushes in various sizes
  • Matte-finish Mod-Podge
  • An artist’s palette, or other container to hold your paint as you work

Steps:

1.Using the foam brush, paint the entire jar black. Let dry and paint with another coat until you reach your desired level of opaque.

2.At various intervals, paint small white daisies with yellow centers. You will need to paint over them a second time to make sure they really show up against the black.

3.Paint looping, leafy green vines connecting each flower. You will have to paint over these a second or even third time as well.

4.Allow your design to dry, then seal it in painting a coat of matte-finish Mod-Podge over it. Let this completely dry for 15 to 20 minutes. This keeps the paint underneath from chipping.

5.Fill your jar with flowers, real or fake, and enjoy the sight of spring!

NOTE: These painted jars are NOT safe to drink out of, even when sealed.
