Ms. E’s endeavor to educate in England

“As a high school English teacher, a theatre nerd, and Shakespeare literature lover, this is at the top of my bucket list!” Over a three week period in London, England, the “Teaching Shakespeare through Performance” program brings in teachers from all around the world to learn about the performance aspects of Shakespeare plays. Ms. Eubanks feels that it is her responsibility that her students know the true meaning of Shakespeare’s works, so she applied.

“Students think of Shakespeare as an old man who couldn’t possibly connect to them or their lifestyles today. Getting the chance to work with professional educators, artists, and researchers as I find a relationship between actor and audience can help me develop a better relationship with students in my classroom.” Much to her surprise, Ms. Eubanks was one of fourteen accepted into this prestigious program and simply cannot wait for the trip. From June 26th to July 14th, Ms. E will be across the pond, learning from the best actors and professors on the historic Globe Theater stage, Billy’s old stomping grounds. Her dream, however, may not come true, due to the overall cost of the trip. Although $5,000 for three week study program in England is quite reasonable, it is still a lot of money for someone with a teacher’s salary.  Ms. E applied for an educational grant which would cover most of the expenses, but they turned down her request. She has pursued other sources to fund her trip with no success. So she took to the internet.

Through popular crowdfunding websites like GoFundMe and classroom- friendly DonorsChoose, Ms. E is determined to raise the funding needed. In the last month, she has accumulated $550 dollars, but she still has $4500 to go. “Any and all financial help for me to expand my teaching skills with this program is greatly appreciated.”

If people want to donate directly to Ms. Eubanks, they can if they wish.
