After a fairly strong season last year (16-11) compared to years past here at Osceola, the Girls’ Varsity Basketball team is coming in very confident this year with a young team led by many juniors. A major factor in the team’s success last year was Katie Horan (Shooting Guard) who averaged just over 22 points per game. Last season she actually broke the school record for the most 3-point shots in a season.

The team does have some setbacks, however. Guards Brooke Sponheimer and Payton Hill are both injured at the moment but are supposed to return by the end of the season. Another reason that the team had a pretty fair season last year was thanks to their newly acquired head coach Seth McClung. He coached a winless Pinellas Park team the year prior, proving he may just have needed more talent on his team. A fun fact about him is that he was actually a professional baseball player for the Milwaukee Brewers and was a relief pitcher for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.

The team is 3-7 as of December 10th with more than 15 more games left on their schedule.
