Green Devils run over Warriors

The St. Pete Green Devils ran over the Warriors Friday night. Final score 45-20. Osceola’s players knew they would have a tough time.  “Dunedin was a pretty easy game but St. Pete won’t be the same,” said tight end Spencer Finkhousen.

The Warriors have not played the Green Devils in the past two years.  Coach Palmer said, “the last time we played them it was a close game.” The game started out bright for the Warriors as the Green Devils fumbled on their opening drive, and that fumble led to a Ryan Allan 3-yard touchdown run to give a Warriors an early lead of 6-0. The Green Devils then answered back with a rushing touchdown making the score 6-6.

On the Warriors next drive, running back Travis Wateska rushed for a 1-yard touchdown adding 7 more points to the scoreboard making the score 13-6 Warriors lead. The Green Devils then rushed for another touchdown making the score 13-13. At the end of the first quarter the score of the game was tied at 13-13. St. Pete rushed for yet again another touchdown, making it their third rushing touchdown of the game with the scoreboard at 19-3. Isaac Rosenbluth had a big kickoff return in the second quarter to give the Warriors great field position, but the team not capitalize on it as they had to punt later in the drive.

St. Pete then scored off of another rushing touchdown, making the score 25-13. However on the Warriors next drive, Travis Wateska rushed for another 1-yard touchdown making the score of the game 25-20 St. Pete. Safety Brandon Welch intercepted the Green Devils late in the second quarter to stop them from scoring once again. At halftime the Green Devils were winning 25-20. Palmer said, “They have a few more players that are faster than ours and that can make a difference.”He wasn’t wrong as speed was a key factor in this game. The Warriors didn’t score the rest of the game, but did make mistakes with two fumbles. The Green Devils didn’t think twice to stop scoring as they went on to score three more rushing touchdowns, making the final score 45-20.
