As many students know, the wrestling team used to roll out mats daily in the cafeteria to use for practice space. Rolling out mats was a process that took up about 15 minutes of time where now students can immediately begin practice with the new addition of a wrestling room in the gymnasium. The room is found along the back wall of the gym in between the girls locker room and the boys locker room. Although some wrestlers are enjoying the change, some of their teammates do not feel the same.

“The wrestling room is an entirely different atmosphere than the cafeteria,” said senior Spencer Jacoby. “I personally enjoyed practicing in the cafeteria more; the wrestling room currently has no air conditioning and has a very short ceiling which makes it difficult sometimes to complete takedowns and other moves,” he added. Spencer has been a member of the wrestling team since he was a freshman. He began wrestling at the varsity level towards the end of his freshman year and has been an active member of the team since. “With this being my last year at Osceola I am excited to see what Coach Smalley does in the future with the wrestling room,” said Spencer.

With some wrestlers unhappy about the change, others like junior Nick Baldino are enjoying the new wrestling room. “The past couple years of rolling out mats daily has been a serious pain,” said Nick. “It was a process that took up a lot of needed practice time.” Nick who wrestles at the 120lb weight class has been a part of the team for three years now. “This season is going very well so far and I think some of it is due to the fact that we have more practice time with the wrestling room,” he said.
