AP art students are looking forward to their show today.

This year’s Scholastic Art Awards recognized 32 artworks from Osceola High, and students receiving eight gold keys, eleven silver keys, and thirteen honorable mentions in the regional competition. Gold key artworks will automatically be in the 2015 Scholastic National Competition in New York.  Art teacher Mr. Locascio is very proud of the students, and said, “I’m very pleased with the recognition my students are getting, particularly with the AP students. I’m really excited- it’s going to be one big art party! No sports, no football, no soccer… just art!

“The Warriors will be taking over at Gibbs.”

Eleven students from our school have been chosen for the local gallery exhibition. Many of the students that have been selected are current AP art students. Students selected include Katelyn Dyson Garris, Erin Stein, Alicia Stottlar, Sydney Gilchrist, Catherine Jette, Marielle Martinez, Meghan McAleenan, Mackenzie Morgan, Kyle Prillmayer, Kristina Zakarkaite, and Megan Devin. All artworks will be acknowledged at the ceremony on Thursday, February 12th at Gibbs High, and most of the original pieces will exhibited in the gallery there, along with other local students’ art. Everyone is welcome to come to the show to view the art. Mrs. Wallen and Mr. Locascio will attend the ceremony at Gibbs as well. Much of the students’ art is posted onto Artsonia.com, and you can search “Osceola High School” to view the ones from our school, including ones that will be displayed in the exhibit. One AP art student, Mar, said, “I’m really excited and I hope my art goes to the New York round.” Mar said she started taking an interest in art when she was fourteen years old. Another AP student, Erin, said, “Ever since Mr. L said we were in the show, I’ve had that song about New York stuck in my head.” Erin has been interested in art since she was ten years old.
