Gatsby prom gets into gear

Flappers and Lindbergh look-a likes will be found in abundance at this year’s 1920s-themed prom, inspired by the novel The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. According to Mrs. Griggs, Junior Class adviser and organizer of the prom, the theme was decided in September and October. “Many decisions were made at that time,” Mrs. Griggs explained. “They decided the theme, menu, and part of the décor.” Mrs. Griggs said she likes the theme because all juniors have to read The Great Gatsby, and she likes “the idea of tying the curriculum to the prom theme of the ‘Roaring ’20s.”

The junior class has been working hard to prepare for prom, and Mrs. Griggs stated professional event planners have been hired to help. “With their expertise,” Mrs. Griggs said, “I am sure that the guests will feel like they are entering another place and time. I have few surprises that will be revealed that night.”

However, despite the fact that The Great Gatsby is required reading for OHS juniors, not all students are familiar with F. Scott Fitzgerald’s famous novel. So, here is a quick quiz on The Great Gatsby and the 1920s. Don’t worry; there are no spoilers!
