Students sculpt their way into art show

Recently some students at Osceola got chosen to be in the Scholastic art and writing show.  Art teacher Mrs. Wallen only chose a few pieces of art work to be on display.  The artwork was based on the type of art called “surrealism.” Specifically two students at Osceola got chosen to be in the Scholastic art show, 9th grader Gracie Wilkinson, and 11th grader Jenna Tuthill.

Gracie Wilkinson is a freshman at Osceola.  This year was her first year taking art class in high school. For her art project called “The heart of the Giraffe” Gracie created a giraffe out of wire with a large red heart creating the body.  “This piece is surreal because a giraffe does not have a heart for a body with a large heart,” said Gracie.  Not only did Gracie have to construct it but she had to make it in a certain amount of time.  “It took a week to make,” she also said.  In the art show her project received a silver key.

Jenna Tuthill, 11th grade was another student chosen by art teacher Mrs. Wallen to participate in the Art show.  For her project Jenna created a project called “Stand in Line.”  In her project there is a pair of point shoes (Ballet) tied up with a bow.  There are roped attached and intertwined with the shoes and toy army men are attached.  Her piece is surreal because “Dance, in a way is dedication and time just like training for the army,” said Jenna.
