Jared Ramos, winner of Osceola’s first Poetry Slam

The Poetry SLAM in took place in April, and the two poets that were victorious in the contest are preparing for the District Poetry Slam at the Largo Cultural Center on May 19th.
The winner of the Poetry Slam was Jared Ramos, a sophomore, and Stephanie Freshman, a senior, placed second. These two students will be representing Osceola High School at the district competition. The third place poet, Aiden Sherman, sophomore, will be an alternate in the event that Stephanie or Jared cannot attend.

This is the first time a Poetry SLAM has been held at Osceola. Judges gave scores on a 10 point scale. The competing poets read two poems, one for each round. Eight poets competed, and read 16 poems.
Numerous schools around the county will attend the district Poetry SLAM, including local schools like Largo, Clearwater and Seminole.
