The Keystone XL pipeline is a controversial pipeline that travels across the U.S. from Canada, containing petroleum oil, to refineries primarily on the gulf coast of Texas. Ms. Muran’s AP Environmental classes debated the merits of the Keystone XL pipeline in class last Friday. Students shown sitting the picture took the side of not building it; while the two students standing argued that it is necessary to construct. The students in favor of building backed up their argument with that it would create thousands of jobs, make us less dependent of foreign oil, and it would have little environmental impact. Arguments against the pipeline include that the jobs made with the construction of it would be temporary, our dependency on foreign oil will not decrease, and oil within the U.S. would only lower by three cents.
