Last Friday, the students of foreign language classes went to SPIFFS for a field trip. The St. Petersburg International Folk Fair is a festival where students get to experience many cultures through ethnic foods and activities.  All Spanish, French, and Italian classes attended.  Students went to the festival to experience different cultural foods and learn about different countries.

At SPIFFS, tents were set up with different countries’ names on them.  Food, clothing, and jewelry were laid out to represent that certain country. The students of foreign language classes got to walk around and get a feel and understanding of other countries and their culture.  The food at SPIFFS was popular and a main choice for students.  “The food was the best part,” said Phi Nguyen, 10th grade. There were also a selection of different foods from many different countries.  “My favorite place was Peru, because they had awesome empanadas,” said Rachel Cruz, 9th grade.  The food variety ranged from chicken on a stick, to noodles, funnel cakes, sugar cane, and many more.

Not only did SPIFFS allow students to eat a wide variety of foods, it also allowed students to walk around and socialize with friends. Jennah Lilly, 10th grade, said, “the best part about spiffs was hanging out with friends.”

“Socializing with friends and experiencing the culture was the best part,” said Emma, 9th grade.
