Around 40 people are signed up for the Great American Teach-in, which is scheduled to be in 3 weeks.

This is the 19th year of the Teach in, and it has been sponsored by the former Progress Energy (now Duke Energy) since the first year of the event, which was 1994. The Teach-in provides all sorts of workers , such as firefighters, police officers, reporters, and others from all sorts of jobs the opportunity to speak to students. It also provides students a day where they don’t have to do work, right before they get off for Thanksgiving Break.

Mrs. Giovo, the volunteer coordinator at OHS, is the person who handles the registration for the Teach-in.

“We get radio DJs, and we’ve had one of the sheriffs come and talk about crime scene investigation,” Mrs. Giovo commented about some of the memorable people that have come in for previous teach-ins. This year, she said, “We have a TBT reporter, and we’re working on the DJ again.”

“I think it’s a really good opportunity for the kids,” she commented.

The Great American Teach-in is on November 21, 2013, the Thursday before Thanksgiving Break. Registration is due by November 7th.
