Marching band working hard

You may have heard the band play during football games, and in the halls before a home varsity game. But how much work goes into those performances?

“We practice from 5:15 to 8:30 on Tuesdays and Thursdays,” said John-Paul Mathis, 11th grade, Pit Section. During practices they work on their music and their foot work so they can get good scores at their band competitions. In fact, the band just completed their final competition on Saturday.

According to some band members, there are many difficult parts, and fun parts about being in band. Anthony Pongetti, 9th grade, said “The hardest part is memorizing the sets and music, and the best part is marching.” But for others, the toughest part is working so hard and the greatest part is being with all of their friends, and people that they share similar hobbies too.

With the all the practicing, the band members believe they are getting better and advancing their skills. John-Paul Mathis, 11th grade, said “During practices we are getting a lot of work done, and working hard to get it done.” With all of the hard work they are doing, they think their performances at games are a lot of fun.
