Seniors stare down online class deadline

With less than 15 weeks left to go in the school year, seniors, juniors, sophomores, and freshmen all are rushing to finish their online classes before the deadline. And while it may not be a graduation requirement for seniors, some seniors are still trying to finish the classes they chose to take. “Seniors taking online classes must finish about one week before graduation,” said Ms. Polizzi, Guidance counselor at OHS.

As for every student who isn’t a senior, taking an online class is a graduation requirement. And if students fail the class or don’t finish that class, “it’s like failing any other class,” said Polizzi. Mrs. Polizzi also said that students won’t be able to graduate without their online class course (excluding seniors). “Juniors are the 1st class to have the online class requirement,” said Polizzi.

Students can generally finish an online class quicker than a regular in school class. According to Ms. Polizzi, students can finish a year-long online class in 36 weeks or less, depending on the student. Also, students can meet their online course requirement by taking a ½ credit class as well. “We try to encourage students to take ½ classes,” said Polizzi. She also mentioned that a popular online class is HOPE, because students can meet 2 graduation requirements at once. The deadline for students to finish is before the last week of school, so finish those courses!
