Last year’s festival involved “bringing out the dead,” those affected by the plague.

The National English Honor Society’s Shakespeare Festival is rolling in again. On April 23rd from periods 1 to 5, students will be able to  celebrate the bard’s birthday with hi jinks and music.

All NEHS members will participate in or help to host the event. There will be a meeting for members about the event in Mrs. Herzhauser’s room 228 in the days leading up to the festival from 1:40 to 2:20.

Costumes are recommended for members to keep up with the theme. Mrs. Herzhauser said, “The Shakespeare Festival is a chance for English students to show their appreciation for one of the great writers of the world. During this festival, we have fun. Shakespeare is fun. We have everything from calligraphy to fencing. The entire school is involved: the music departments, drama, clubs and students.”

Students can find the festivities in the courtyard next to the cafeteria’s outdoor eating area. According to Mrs. Herzhauser, the purpose for the meetings is to “organize and rehearse for the day. We also make the games for the day. It is all prep.”

Several students are looking forward to it. Harrison, 11th grade, said, “I enjoy the festival because I can sword fight with pool noodles.” Nick Charts, 11th grade, said, “I think it’s interesting because of the accurate portrayal of Shakespeare’s work. Very enjoyable.”

Branson Stout, 12th grade, said, “I enjoy it because it is something that happens once a year and the musical department does a really good job creating the Shakespeare vibe.”

Sarah Marschang, 10th grade, said that “It’s a really good time to show how our school does Shakespeare’s plays. It’s amazing.”
