Osceola athletics recognized by county

The PCS Athletic Awards Luncheon took place last week, an event that recognizes athletic success in the Pinellas County School system, and Osceola came away with quite a few awards.
To begin, both Coaches of the Year hailed from Osceola; Coach Hill, for women’s golf, and Coach Ziesenheim, for Osceola’s flag football team. The women’s golf team went to states, and the flag football team went to the quarterfinals in the playoffs. Coach Hill seemed honored that he won the award, but understood why he received it.
“With the season that we had this year, it was a given,” said Coach Hill. “We went 43-3, and placed 4th in states. The girls did the work for me,” he said.
Coach Hill also acknowledged the success of Coach Z’s flag football team. “It’s cool to have two coaches [win coach of the year]. I sat next to Z at the banquet dinner, and he seemed excited,” said Coach Hill.
On top of this, Osceola also placed 3rd in the Grade Point Average award behind East Lake and Palm Harbor, which recognizes athlete GPA, and placed second in the superintendent award behind East Lake, which recognizes overall athletics for the school.
“For GPA, we have a lot of smart kids out here, and good student athletes. As for the Superintendent award, many teams here went to regionals and states, all across the board,” explained Coach Hill. Coach Hill also discussed Palm Harbor and East Lake, the two schools that placed ahead of Osceola.
“Both schools are bigger than us,” he said, “and they have smart kids as well. Just like us, they have some atheletes that are smart, and they have more of them,” he explained, before asserting Osceola would come out the victor next year.
“The better the team, the more points you get for the Superintendent award. As for GPA, the race was decided by a tenth, and the first and second place winners was decided by a hundredth.”
