Allergies are beginning to rise with winter coming to an end, and spring on the rise. As the spring season approaches, many people’s allergies have become atrocious. This has left many people questioning why their allergies are so awful, so early in the season.
“Allergy season typically peaks in the spring and fall,” WFLA says, “but many Floridians feel its effects all year long.” Within Florida it is very common to have allergies all year around. Many people struggle with their stuffy nose or tearing/puffy eyes. Florida is a very common place to have allergies, but why?
WFLA says,” Florida’s mild winters and high humidity create a haven for allergens.” The intense heat with the high humidity in Florida tends to cause these terrible allergies. WFLA also says, “Pollen from oak trees, grass, and weeds can linger for months.” Overall, Florida is a host for these dreadful allergies that make people feel sickly.
Since Florida is such a host for these allergens and people can’t escape it while living in the state, it has left many people wondering what they can do to stop these horrible allergies.
With allergies being so high, HCA Florida Healthcare has recommended some ways to help prevent allergies.
- Keep an eye on local weather forecasts
- Avoid outdoor tasks when possible
- Change and wash your clothes after outdoor activities
- If pets are in the house, they may bring in pollen so just be aware.
- Talk to your doctor about allergy medications and other treatments that might help prevent or relieve symptoms.
Allergies are strongly based on genetics according to Penn Medicine. This may show why some students experience allergies and others don’t. One 9th grader at Osceola Fundamental High School says, “No I don’t get affected by allergies.” While another 9th grader, Madison Gorta says, “I get allergies sometimes and a stuffy nose. “
