See what happens when lines are crossed in “Borderline”

The story of “Borderline” follows fifteen year old Sami Sabiri, a Muslim-American who lives with his mom and dad in upstate New York. He lives a difficult life and his only friends are two Caucasian boys that live on his block. Sami goes to a prestigious academic school where he happens to be the only Muslim kid and is constantly bullied. Sami maintains a good friendship with his two friends Andy and Marty even if their parents don’t agree. Things don’t get much better for Sami when after his father returns from a business trip to Toronto. Sami catches his father in lie. Soon after, the FBI descends on his home to detain his father for allegedly having ties to a Toronto-based terrorist organization. Sami’s life will continue to turn upside-down unless he finds a way to prove his father’s innocence, which may involve risking his life in the process. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in stories that involve seemingly normal lives, all of the sudden being uprooted because of global terrorism. This book shows and mentions how Muslim people in America, especially since 9/11, have been discriminated against.
