Osceola defeats Dixie, douses a little offense in win

When the Warriors took the field on Friday night, they knew that anything was possible. Well, Friday night was wild to say the least. There were many twists and turns on the way to a 48- 31 win at Dixie Hollins High School. Not even five minutes into the game, the Warriors found themselves trailing 14-0 to a 2-5 Rebels team. The Warriors responded gradually over the next 6 minutes to tie the game at 14 by the end of the first quarter.

The second quarter was another tumultuous quarter. Rebel’s receiver Jacquez Hill picked up 50 yards on a catch and run down inside the Warriors 20 yard line. This was a worrying sight for the Warriors, who planned to contain Hill. “We have to play him physically, he’s not used to it,” said Wilan Harvey, 11th grade, who guarded Hill for most of the game. The warriors took a 21-17 lead into the locker room at the half.

In the 3rd quarter, the Warriors offense and defense played to their full potential. Running backs Quadarius Patterson, 12th grade, and Jamil Morris, 12th grade,  both scored touchdowns for the Warriors to make the score 35-24. Late in the 3rd quarter, Warriors cornerback Eric Suominen, 12th grade, intercepted a  pass and returned it 20 yards for a touchdown to make it 41-24 at the end of the 3rd quarter.

This wild game culminated with yet another bizarre incident. About halfway through the quarter, the game was delayed because the field’s sprinkler system of all things turned on, showering the field in water. This delay caused the crowd to be confused as to how this could happen. About 5 minutes later, the game was resumed. The Warriors went on to win 48- 31, beating Dixie Hollins for a 2nd straight year.
