And the award goes to…

Chemistry teacher Ms. Brown is the district nominee at Osceola for Educator of the Year. Ms. Brown stated that she is “honored” to have been nominated for the district award since there are so many excellent teachers at this school. The nomination came from Ms. Brown’s administrators. According to Ms. Brown, the Educator of the Year award was created “to recognize teachers who strive to excel and probably to encourage teachers.” Ms. Brown also stated that what she enjoys the most about teaching is “many things.” But mainly it was to “interact with the students and helping them to understand new concepts as well as celebrating their accomplishments.”

Ms. Brown is one of ten finalists in Pinellas County who are up for the award. According to school principal Mr. Bohnet, there were “about ten” teachers that could have been chosen as the finalist for Osceola. The decision on who to nominate to represent Osceola all comes down to four administrators, as well as recommendations from department heads such as the head of the math or science department. The administrators then vote on the finalist nominee. Mr. Bohnet said that the decision was “really hard to make” since there are a lot of great teachers. Factors that went into Ms. Brown being selected include that fact she does such a great job, is very active on the school committee as well as does a lot to benefit the school itself.
