The results are in for the play, “The Sound of Music”. The lead role of Maria will be played by senior Rebecca Hazners.

She was so happy that she got the lead role; she said she started to think of ways to prepare for her big day. Rebecca says that since she has to sing on stage for the play, she will rest her voice and try to get plenty of sleep and try to rehearse often.

“I had to wait a long time before the listings were up on the board; the wait was killing me,” Rebecca said. She said that for her audition she had to pick a monologue and sing a snippet of a song. “A board of teachers picked the parts for the play, so I’m honored that they picked me for the lead role.”

Rebecca says that this role is going to be the biggest role she has ever played here at Osceola. “So I picked out a 30 second monologue called ‘You can’t love that man’ and for the song I picked ‘Can’t stop loving that man’ which I thought tied the two in with each other.”

Rebecca, a senior in Theater Honors III, actually had to learn the song while she was sick, but even that didn’t throw her off.

I’ve been in love with theater ever since I got into high school,

Rebecca thinks singing in front of hundreds of people is more comfortable for her than talking to a regular class of 20, which is mostly the opposite for some people.

“I really wanted the role of Maria, because her character just seems so beautiful and I’m glad that I can show the audience how I see her character in my mind.”
