Teachers and students remember Devin Chester

February 11th was Devin Chester’s birthday and staff and students reflected on their memories.  Students left balloons, flowers, candy and loving remarks on his locker in a tribute to Devin.

On Friday, October 24th, OFHS students, faculty and staff were shocked and saddened by the death of junior Devin Chester. Devin died when he was dirt biking at Sunshine Motocross in Pinellas Park. Devin was 17 years old and he had his whole life in front of him. Teachers, administrators and students were impacted. World History teacher Mr. Bell was so stricken that he decided not to teach class that day. “Devin was one of my favorite students,” said Mr. Bell. “We would always go back and forth at each other. I would tease him and he would tease me right back and it was fun,” said Mr. Bell. Senior Steven Freshman was a friend of Chester and still misses Devin. “God he was a great dude. Miss you buddy,” said Steven. Junior Casey Williams didn’t know Devin too well, but was still shocked at the loss. “It just goes to show you that life is short and that you need to live it to the fullest,” said Casey. Senior Jesse Barker took a more positive approach. “Yeah, it is sad that Devin died but instead of mourning his loss we should be celebrating his life and be happy that someone like Devin went to our school,” said Jesse.  “Instead of feeling down about his death, Devin would want us to just go out and have fun doing something that we love,” said Steven. If you would like to pay your respects to Devin, his locker is up on the second floor near Mr. MacDonald’s room and is covered in balloons and cards.  You can’t miss it.
