Warriors place in Short Story Finals

Two of Osceola High School’s finest writers recently placed in the finals of the Largo Library Short Story Competition, beating out over 300 overall submissions from 21 middle and high schools. The competition, with the theme of “Return to the scene of the crime,” produced 16 finalists from all over Pinellas County.

Out of the 16 finalists, Dylan Croteau, 10th grade, and Jamie Turnbull, 9th grade, both won an honorable mention and third place, respectively. Along with placing in the finals, Dylan’s story, “Love, Blood and Other Messy Things,” won $50, and Jamie’s story, “Angelus Meus,” won $100.

“I think the top three deserved what they got, but all the stories were good,” Dylan commented. “I liked the theme most.”

The awards ceremony, which took place on Monday, April 21st, split the competition into a middle and high school level, and out of 16 final positions, put awards for a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place, as well as 5 honorable mentions.
