Crossing swords, hurling insults and Shakespeare-style selfies
Shakespeare’s birthday celebration is getting rough for English teacher Mr. Stewart. He’s crossed (foam) swords with Francis Gerard for several minutes in the lunch courtyard under a blazing sun, sometimes gaining a lead. First Gerard seems to falter, and then Mr. Stewart takes a hit. In the end, after a valiant effort, Oracle advisor Mr. Stewart succumbed to “King” Francis, kneeling on the unyielding concrete.
Not to worry, though. When the bell rings to dismiss this period of battle-weary Warriors, a new group pours into the courtyard, fresh and ready for a fight.
In addition to swordplay, students can get a Shakespeare-style selfie, make up an insult to share with friends or dress up in crowns and lace. The celebration during William Shakespeare’s birth week continues tomorrow with a play in the auditorium 7th period.
