Falcons football fumble: Warriors triumph

The Osceola Warriors played this past Friday night against the Dunedin Falcons at Dunedin. “I expect us to play well ’cause we practiced well,” Coach Palmer saidgoing into Friday night’s game.

The Falcons tried to start the game with a little trickery with an onside kick but the Warriors didn’t fall for it and gained possession of the ball. To lead off on the Warriors opening drive, quarterback Ryan Allan threw a 61-yard touchdown pass to Isaac Rosenbluth to take an early lead 6-0. The Warriors came out and showed they were ready to play defense too with an interception by defensive back Brandon Welch. Brandon’s interception lead to a Travis Wateska rushing touchdown to give the Warriors a 14-0 lead as they went for a two point conversion to make up for missing the extra point from their first touchdown.

Just as the Warriors thought they had faltered with a fumble and the Falcons recovered, the Falcons then fumbled to give the Warriors their field position back as they recovered the Falcons fumble. The Falcons fumble then led to a 12-yard catch by Chad Brittain to give the Warriors a 21-0 lead. The Warriors jumped out to a quick lead, leading the Falcons 21-7 at the end of the first quarter. To lead off the second quarter, running back Chad Brittain rushed for a 9-yard touchdown increasing the Warriors lead to 28-7. Later on in the second quarter after another Falcons fumble recovered by the Warriors, led to a Ryan Allen 45-yard touchdown run to give the Warriors 6 more points making the score 34-7 Warriors lead. Yet again the Falcons fumble for the third time in the game and the Warriors recover the ball giving them great field position.

The Warriors take advantage of this field position and end up scoring on a 10-yard run from Tony Niles to tack on 6 more points for the Warriors making the lead 40-7. On the Warriors next possession Tony Niles is running with the ball and out of nowhere loses the football practically throwing it in the air to tight end Spencer Finkhousen who catches the ball and takes off running with it but not for many yards though. The Warriors couldn’t score one more time after that play before halftime, but the first half was all theirs with a lead of 40-7. After halftime the Warriors only scored one more touchdown which was a 3-yard run bumping the score up to 47-7. After that touchdown, neither of the teams scored again throughout the third and fourth quarter. With a 47-7 win Coach Palmer was pleased, saying, “I thought that we played well and felt like we made some mistakes that we need to correct but I feel like we did good.” Palmer was not the only one who was pleased with the team’s performance. “It feels good to pull through with a W after the Pinellas Park loss,” said running back Travis Wateska.
