Shortly after the school year began, one of the culinary teachers moved to New York leaving Chef Long as the last chef standing. It takes two to mango, and Chef Long is looking forward to his new partner.

  • How is Chef Martens absence going to affect you?

Right off the bat, his work load will definitely increase and all the responsibilities with the culinary academy fall on him. He said that he “will miss her and the contributions she makes to our program.”

  • Why did you want to work as an Osceola culinary instructor?

First, he loves to share his “passion for food and culinary arts”. He said his mentors and teachers mean so much. “I owe more than I could ever repay.” He loves the idea that now he is the teacher and he has students learning from his expertise.  He thinks it’s the least he could do for the people that helped him.

  • Are you enjoying your classes this year?

“Yes, the kids have been fantastic so far, and I believe I have some future chefs in culinary 1 this year.”

  • What did you really want to do besides working at Osceola as a culinary teacher?

His dream has always been to open his own restaurant because of the gratitude and appreciation you receive from customers. “It is unbelievable, knowing you put everything you had into a dish you created and someone enjoyed it.”

  • Do you know who the new culinary teacher is going to be?

“No, I’m waiting like everyone else”. He hopes the new teacher will be great.

  • What is your favorite food to make? Why?

“I love making sauces because it takes pure skill and taste on a plate; everyone can cook, just like the rat said.”
