Administrators excused tardies yesterday due to the accident.

On Monday, at 3 a.m., a vehicle caught fire after it crashed into a pillar under the U.S. Hwy 19 overpass at Bryan Dairy Road. According to Bay News 9, Pinellas Park Police believe that the driver was speeding at the time. The state Department of Transportation evaluated the bridge for any damage yesterday, while Bryan Dairy Road was shut down for hours. In addition, north and southbound U.S. Hwy 19 frontage roads were closed. Later in the afternoon, both frontage roads reopened.

Although the crash affected some students’ commute to school, according to Ms.  Reitz, there were a normal amount of tardies. Lauren Kasson, 12th grade, was confused and almost late to school, due to the accident. “Because of the crash, I had to go all the way back to Ulmerton Road, where there was a lot of traffic. It was very stressful.”  Admisitration excused those tardies yesterday.
