Decades Day changes for freshmen

The week before Homecoming, as well as the Homecoming game, is a way for students to show their pride in the school. For a long time, Decades Day has been traditional for Osceola Spirit Week. Freshmen have always dressed as the ’20s decade, Sophomores as the ’50s, Juniors as the ’70s, and Seniors as the ’80s. This year, however, the Freshmen are going to dress in ’90s fashion, and all other classes are staying the same. Some Freshmen are elated to dress as the ’90s as it is easier than attempting to dress for the ’20s.

Viet Ahn, Freshmen class president, said, “We decided to move freshmen to ’90s because based on what I heard, ’20s was too difficult for the freshmen in previous years”.  Many Freshmen students were in agreement with this statement as they genuinely like the idea of doing the ’90s. The 90’s style of dress can include lots of different flannel pieces and baggy jeans.

Haley Huffman, 9th grade, said, “I know I will probably do a ’90s style rapper, but I will also probably ask my parents for fashion advice, and that will definitely be easier than asking anyone how to dress for the ’20s”. The freshmen can dress in statement pieces, as Haley mentioned. They can also dress in the famous grunge of the ’90s. One Sophomore said, “It will definitely be easier than the ’20s, but it also seems unfair. We, as Freshmen last year, had to find ways to dress for the ’20s because we all understood that it was a tradition at Osceola.” Many sophomores share her concern as they had to dress as flapper girls or in bowler hats last year. Even more upperclassmen are upset by the news of this. Four years ago, they were freshmen upset at the ’20s day but excited for the day that they could dress in ’80s style. Victorya Santos, 12th grade, said, “I’m mainly just excited to finally be able to dress in the ’80s fashion”. Spirit Week is coming soon, so students may want to start planning for their outfits, whether it be a Freshman for a ’90s style or a Senior for ’80s.
