Every Sunday, important news is sent to parents. This happens through the Sunday callout.
There’s a lot going into this call, and most parents and students don’t hear it. Staying in the know about what’s going on for both the students and parents is important.
The problem is that most parents don’t know that the call is supposed to go to voicemail, so they can listen to it later. The front desk clerk, Ms. Gerlach, said, “It makes for a lot more phone calls”. Not only does this waste time, but this also creates confusion between parents and the school. A long-time teacher, Ms. DeAtley, said, “Often parents of seniors will say they didn’t know senior ad sales are over, and many times emails about yearbooks will go to the wrong person. It’s frustrating because I make it a point to put all information on the website and on the callout. If students can help by telling parents to let the call go to voicemail, then both students and parents can get the information.”
Freshman Isabella Zuzek said, “My parents listen to the Sunday callout, but they don’t remember all the information because there is so much news. For example, my mom didn’t know there was no school on Monday.” It is understandable that it isn’t easy to retain the information, but there are solutions. Ms. Gerlach also said that her solution to this problem is to post all the information on Osceola’s website. This would provide another way for parents to easily view all the information if there are any problems with the call. Some families have also created their own way of remembering everything. Freshman Carly Carbaugh said, “My mom prints the email out to remember all the information given.”
Having all the information given to a person within a two-minute voicemail is difficult for some people. The variety of places to access this information has now expanded after all the difficulties with the call. The information can be found on the school website on the home page, some students receive the information in an email as well as in the Sunday callout voicemail.
