The Warriors baseball team won after a long night on the 2nd, during a game against East Lake. The game lasted 9 innings when they usually just play 7 innings, but the team had to play two innings in overtime to get a winner.

The 1st inning was good for the Warriors as they started off the game strong by shutting down East Lake, retiring their 1, 2, and 3 hitters to end the top of the 1st. The Warriors got the bats going early but stranded two on base ending the 1st inning. The second inning was much better for the Warriors, since the first two batters got on and Luke Biblehauser moved the two over with a sacrifice bunt that led to a Jake Remus RBI single to score the Warriors’ and game’s first run.

The team was not done after that, since Garrett Cook scored on a bad throw by East Lake, and Remus scored by stealing home after he was moved over to third by an Austin Keene single. Neither team did anything during the 3rd and 4th inning. Jeremy Adams was the starting pitcher for the Warriors, and going into the top of the 5th inning he had a no hitter going until #19 from East Lake hit a single into right field. “I felt very confident in my pitches going into it; I was just looking to attack the hitter and let my defense do the work,” said Jeremy.

East Lake then went on to score 3 runs that inning to tie the game at 3-3. Both teams went back and forth for the rest of the 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th inning, not scoring against each other. In the top of the 9th inning, East Lake had runners on 1st and 2nd as a hard ball was hit into center field. The coach is waving his runner to go home and the Warriors’ center fielder Abel Diaz comes up firing and throws the kid out at home to keep East Lake from taking the lead. “Before I threw the kid out, I was anticipating that play and I was ready to make something happen. So when he hit that ball up the middle, I charged it and made a strong throw to get him out. After I had thrown him out, I was hype because at that time of the game and (to) throw someone out is big and I was glad I had the opportunity to save another game,” said Abel.

The Warriors got out of that inning as East Lake had runners on 2nd and 3rd. The Warriors had the top of their order coming up to start the bottom of the 9th, and Keene hit a double to the fence to start things off. Diaz then got intentionally walked, Chase Achuff lays down a bunt and everyone is safe. So now bases are loaded with no outs. Nojus Ragauskas comes up to bat and lines out to the first baseman to make one out, then Tyler Malinowski is up to bat and foul tips out. So it all comes down to Isaac Al. Isaac has a 1-2 count with two outs. The East Lake pitcher hits Isaac to walk in Keene for the game winning run. The Warriors take the game 4-3.

“It’s a great feeling to be able to win a game. Hit or hit by pitch, it does not matter. The run scored and we got the big W,” said Abel. The big W makes the teams record 6-2.
