Rays sweep Angels, first of year

The Tampa Bay Rays played the Los Angeles Angels this past weekend and they swept (won every game of the series) the series for their 1st sweep of the year.

“I found it hard to believe that the Rays swept the Angels because we (the Rays) have bad pitching,” said Zach Butler, 9th grade.

The series was a total of 3 games, including Friday, May 6th through Sunday, May 8th – all in Los Angeles. Friday’s game was a good start for the Rays because they came out in the 1st inning and scored 4 runs. The 1st run came from an Evan Longoria sacrifice fly and the rest of the runs came from a Corey Dickerson 3-run home run which made the score 4-0. In the 3rd inning, Brad Miller hit a solo home run to score the 5th run for the Rays. The Angles scored 2 runs later in the game which made the final score 5-2 Rays win. The Saturday game was not starting to look good for the Rays since they were losing 2-0 going into the 6th inning. However, the Rays scored 2 runs in the 6th inning from a Steven Souza, Jr. solo home run and on a Logan Forsythe 2 run single. Then in the 9th inning, Forsythe hit another 2 run single to make the final score 4-2 Rays win. “I feel like the Rays played better on Sunday because the pitching and hitting was better; and also, they played better because the equipment was pink,” said Camden George. Sunday’s game was also Mother’s Day, one that everyone wanted to win for their mom. This particular game was not the best performance for the Rays, but it still still earned the team a sweep. The Angels came out and scored in the 1st inning, putting up 1 run on the scoreboard. In the 3rd inning, Miller hit a 2-run home run for the Rays giving them the lead with a score of 2-1. Then to score the game’s final run, Curt Casali hit a solo home run making the final score of the game 3-1 Rays win. “Brad Miller’s two home runs in the series was a good piece of hitting. He’s been in a slump and has not helped the team all year,” said Camden.
