Osceola Fundamental High School introduces a new club called the Criminology Club! According to Allyson Farrell, the club president and founder, her and her friends Ashlyn Roberts, Katrina Denmon, and Sara Murawski were the ones who originally sparked an interest in majoring/finding a career in criminology. Their interests have now created a new club to help educate and improve others’ criminology knowledge.

“We all had a fascination with law and forensics and thought many other people would have the same interests. We thought it would be a good idea to try and get people together to learn and become informed about the different aspects in criminology for people aspiring or interested in the field,” Allyson stated.

This new club meets the first Wednesday of each month, and they have decided to meet in Mr. Zucker’s room, Portable 14. Since this club was inspired by students, they have considered many ideas to learn about throughout the year, and with Mr. Zucker’s help these ideas will be shared with many other students.

“We gave a few ideas so far of what we want the club to look like. As far as learning and topics we have ideas for guest speakers, mock trials, and informational PowerPoints for people interested in certain topics.” Allyson said. “They can range from law, forensics, psychology, and even police work/investigation. Each meeting will focus intently on one of the topics so people who are looking to pursue that certain career can become more informed on it.”

This club has been a recent add-on to the wide variety of clubs that Osceola offers. And even though this club is not the most common club, there could be advantages/positive effects from joining this club, especially if you are interested in going into a career involving criminology.

“Our club can positively affect a student’s career/life by giving that a little bit of a head start. Typically, schools don’t offer electives involving topics of criminology; however, the club can offer insightful and educational tips and feedback for certain careers under the umbrella of criminology. If people can learn about what they want to do from one of our meetings, I’d say that’s a positive win for us!” said Allyson.
