Winston wins over supporters after strong combine

OPINION

This past weekend was the annual NFL combine where college athletes take part in numerous drills in order to boost their standing with the 32 teams in the NFL. Leading the pack of college stars at Lucas Oil Stadium were quarterbacks Marcus Mariota and Jameis Winston whom are hot commodities for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Bucs are selecting number one overall in this year’s draft and are in desperate need for a new quarterback to lead this inept franchise. Over the weekend Jameis not only excelled on the field but showed crystal clear improvement in his maturity and appeared to take command during his press conference before the combined started on Wednesday. A quote that really impressed me was Winston’s opening line which was “I want to let you all know, I know I’ve made mistakes, I know I have a past, but right now it’s about me moving forward and earning the trust of all these 32 teams out there.” That to me shows a definite boom in maturity especially after the Rose Bowl game where Jameis was seen getting into a heated argument with Coach Jimbo Fisher and seemed to lose motivation as the game went on.

Osceola head football coach George Palmer had this to say about his opinion on Jameis and Marcus. “As of right now I would draft Jameis Winston because he is more NFL ready than Marcus and has clearly shown an improvement in his off the field behavior,” said Palmer. Despite not posting a remarkable forty yard dash time (4.97 seconds) and having a 28.5 inch vertical Winston definitely looked more comfortable throwing passes during the passing drills and showed great poise in the pocket. So who do you think the Bucs should draft with their number one pick in the draft? Right now, if the draft was today I would say “Believe in Jameis!”
