Warriors take Miami

OPINION

Art Miami is a particularly famous art show, known for its shocking and intriguing art. And, on December 4th, Warriors attended “one of the most important annual contemporary art events in the United States”, according to www.artmiamifair.com
Taking place during Miami’s Art Week, Art Miami is a show full of contemporary artists that use their work to shock. This is the fourth year that Osceola students got to attend the art show. This year is a bit different though, as instead of being able to wander through the exhibition hall that was Art Basel, which last year featured more than three hundred galleries from thirty-six countries, students were able to walk around the Wynwood District and attend Art Miami, which is part of Art Basel . The Wynwood District is famous for the murals painted on the wall, along with over 70 galleries. It is known for being “one of the largest open-air street-art installations in the world,” according to www.wynwoodmiami.com/about.php
Classes who attended the trip included AP art history, AP art, literature and the arts, creative writing classes, and some students that have been in those classes in previous years. Along with the Warriors, celebrities are also known to frequent the week dedicated to art. Leonardo DiCaprio, along with Lenny Kravitz and Jamie Foxx are some of the most famous celebrities to attend the art festival.
This was senior Callianne Billington’s second year attending the field trip. “I preferred Art Miami to Art Basel,” she said. “I recognized more of the artists like Keith Herring and Andy Warhol, and I understood the art much more.”

Being able to attend Art Miami was a huge honor to the Warriors interested in art. Being at the art show expanded their point of views and showed them how limitless the mind is when it comes to creativity.
